Shopify or WooCommerce: which is better for your store?
Shopify for most brands that want to sell quickly with little upkeep. WooCommerce if you're already on WordPress or need custom B2B logic and can manage hosting.
Shopify is the better choice for most brands that want to sell quickly without managing servers: hosting, security, updates and checkout are handled for you. WooCommerce is better if your business already runs on WordPress, publishes a lot of content, or needs custom B2B pricing and workflows, and you’re happy to manage hosting and plugin updates or pay someone to.
Which costs less?
WooCommerce itself is free, but you pay for hosting, premium plugins and maintenance. Shopify has a monthly plan and app fees but almost no maintenance. Over three years, the totals are often closer than people expect; the real difference is who does the upkeep.
Which is better for SEO?
Both rank well when built properly. WordPress gives more control over URLs and content structure. Shopify’s fixed URL patterns, such as /products/ and /collections/, are fine for nearly every store.
Which is better for B2B and wholesale?
WooCommerce is more flexible for custom trade pricing, quote requests and account rules. Shopify Plus includes B2B features but costs considerably more than standard plans.
Which connects better to Amazon and TikTok Shop?
Shopify. Its sales channel apps for marketplaces and social selling are more mature, which matters if you sell in several places and need stock in sync.
Our recommendation
- Choose Shopify if you sell products direct to consumers, want to launch fast, or sell on marketplaces too.
- Choose WooCommerce if WordPress is already the heart of your business, or your B2B rules are complex.
